Competencies of outpatient nurses in supporting in-home treatment

Abstract

Objective: To determine the competencies of outpatient nurses in supporting in-home treatment.
Method: A qualitative research design was used, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine outpatient nurses at specialized hospitals.
Results: The findings of interviews with outpatient nurses regarding their competencies in supporting in-home treatment were analyzed. We extracted four core categories, 11 categories, 57 subcategories and 306 codes. The following core categories were extracted: “systematic practice by refining practical skills,” “orientation towards goals in the medical treatment life for patients based on patient understanding,” “facilitation of support through multidisciplinary collaboration,” and “assistance in medical treatment life through the effective use of resources.”
Conclusion: It is expected that the competencies for in-home treatment support identified in this study will facilitate outpatient in-home treatment support.
