A Literature Review on Parental Support Perceived by Yogo Teachers

Abstract

This study aims to review the literature on parental support provided by Yogo teachers in Japan, to clarify the current status and issues of the parental support, and to provide suggestions for future measures. A literature search was conducted on the website of the Igaku Chuo Zasshi (Central Journal of Medicine) and CiNii, that three articles with descriptions of parental support by Yogo teachers were obtained, which were all qualitative research. One study was related to support for developmental disabilities, one was related to child abuse, and one was about parental support and its influencing factors. It was found that Yogo teachers generally followed the flow of consultation and support whenproviding support to parents. Yet, it was inferred that there were similarities between the actions to uncover both apparent and latent needs of the users, the post-evaluation of the support, the termination and measurement of the effectiveness of the support, as well as the need for opportunities for health consultation with the parents and the demand based on the needs of the parents through cooperation within the school and with external specialized organizations. In the future, it will be necessary to work together with health, medical, and welfare professionals to provide support to parents based on their needs, both within the school and in collaboration with external specialized organizations. Based on these findings, it is necessary to qualitatively and quantitatively clarify the actual situation of Yogo teachers’parental support p, aside with to consider evidence-based measures for the support.
