Abstract

In this study, the purposes, effects, and methods of massage performed after intramuscularinjection were studied and the current conditions were clarified based on Japanesenursing textbooks and reference books and research papers, and how massage should beperformed after intramuscular injection in the future was examined.In regard to massageafter intramuscular injection, it was clarified that there is insufficient evidence to supportits necessity, and pharmaceutical agents that cause muscular tissue damage as a result ofmassage after injection were clarified; however, the degree to which this information isrecognized is unclear. Due to these facts, it is currently considered to be better to avoid orjust lightly perform massage after injection.There are pharmaceutical agents that can causemuscle tissue damage as a result of massage after intramuscular injection; however, thedegree to which this information is recognized is unclear. It is necessary for nurses to havea satisfactory understanding of the characteristics of a pharmaceutical agent before theyadminister it.
