Abstract

With the aim of obtaining a clear understanding how children in their later elementary school years perceive their lifestyle and to investigate the guidance that are in line with these perceptions, a survey was carried out on children in their fourth to sixth years of public elementary schools. In this study, a questionnaire survey was carried out; the questionnaire comprised four scales:“Positive orientation towards diet,”“Exercise orientation,”“Thoughts about‘good’sleep,”and“Stress coping.”Results showed a relatively high correlation between these scales. A gender-based comparison across the four scales showed that males felt more strongly than females about“Exercise orientation” while females felt more strongly than males about“Thoughts about‘good’sleep”and “Stress coping.”With regard to lifestyle-related guidance for later elementary school students, all factors, and not just one, should be taken into consideration and the guidance given on the basis of the children’s situations should be investigated. Apparently, this approach can be linked to the actual thoughts of children.
