Abstract

This research discloses a factor analysis addressing the expectations of mothers with respect to their daughter’s parturition. The method used was to conduct a paper-based self-reporting survey, and to perform a factor analysis using the principal factor method with varimax rotation, based on data from 161 persons (collection rate of 48.5%). As a result, 4 factors consisting of 32 items were extracted as follows: Factor 1 with 11 items (support for parturition), Factor 2 with 10 items (value of children), Factor 3 with 7 items (meaning of inheritance for future generations) and Factor 4 with 4 items (prosperity of marriage partners). Within these, Factor 1 (support for parturition) showed the highest value. The Cronbach’a indices were Factor 1: 0.892, Factor 2: 0.864, Factor 3: 0.870, and Factor 4: 0.830, and theses were established as factors for the expectations of mothers regarding their daughter’s parturition. Moreover, within the expectations,“support for parturition” showed the highest value. From these factors, it is suggested that for women who do not bear children, pressure and coercion from the mother to have a child tend to exist.
