PREFACE TO REISSUED Medicine and Biology
Abstract
PREFACE TO REISSUED Medicine and Biology
A scientific journal, Medicine and Biology, was originally started in 1942 by Professor Tomio Ogata (1901-1989), a famed serologist and immunologist, then at Imperial University of Tokyo School of Medicine. The magazine continued to be published for 71 years, throughout World War II and the postwar period, and even after his death in 1989, until 2013 when the editorial board was coerced to break up due to the liquidation of Ogata Institute for Medical and Chemical Research. Ogata Institute, established by Prof. Ogata in 1948, had been a main financial supporter of the journal. The last issue was Vol. 157 (No6, July 2013). The journal was intended to be a vehicle of reports that needed rapid publication. This idea of short communication was rather new in those days. The journal was also quite open, accepting quite broad ranges of medical and biological fields of basic research as well as practical applications. The articles in the journal were compiled in CAS, a division of American Chemical Society for years.
Professor Tsuneo Okuyama (1928-1915), the founder of our Supporting Association of Biotechnology Standardization (SABS), had been involved in Ogata Institute for years, and became interested in restarting the journal after its suspension in 2013. His original idea was to reissue the journal as an internet magazine so that its publication can become so much quicker and the cost of printing and mailing can become almost null. In SABS, being a non-profit organization (NPO), most of the members are chemists, biochemists, biologists and other related fields retired from academic institutions, industries, government organizations. The members being volunteers, the cost of editing can be minimal.
Most of all, an internet journal has a great advantage in rapid searching and filing, as needless to say, and much lower cost of subscription as well. After Prof Okuyama’s sudden death in August, 2015, we decided to continue his effort, and have been working hard to materialize his wish to this day.
The success and continuation of the publication of this restarted journal all depends on the readers’ contributors. We would like you to send us your papers. They can be original research communications, reviews, essays and others. We are quite welcome to have your suggestions and criticisms on this ‘new’ journal.
Thank you so much in advance.
